Baggage Policy

Baggage Policy

Effective Date: October 2026
Last Updated: October 2026

At Classic Fares, we want travelers to understand the baggage conditions that may apply to their flight before they travel.

Baggage allowances, restrictions, charges and handling procedures vary considerably depending upon the airline, operating carrier, itinerary, route, fare type, cabin, passenger status and other conditions.

Classic Fares, operated by Flight Fare Booking Inc., is an independent travel services platform. Classic Fares does not operate aircraft or physically accept, transport, transfer, store, deliver or handle passenger baggage.

The applicable airline determines and administers its baggage rules.

This Baggage Policy explains how baggage information applies to flight reservations searched, quoted, booked or serviced through Classic Fares.

1. Airline Baggage Policies Apply

Every airline establishes baggage rules applicable to its flights and fare products.

Depending upon the airline and reservation, those rules may determine:

  • Personal-item allowance;
  • Carry-on or cabin baggage allowance;
  • Checked baggage allowance;
  • Number of permitted bags;
  • Maximum baggage dimensions;
  • Maximum baggage weight;
  • Checked baggage charges;
  • Additional baggage charges;
  • Overweight baggage charges;
  • Oversized baggage charges;
  • Sports-equipment requirements;
  • Musical-instrument requirements;
  • Infant and child baggage allowances;
  • Mobility-device requirements;
  • Medical-equipment procedures;
  • Restricted or prohibited items; and
  • Other baggage-related conditions.

Unless baggage is expressly shown as included with the selected fare, customers should not assume that free checked baggage or any particular baggage allowance is included with the ticket.

Travelers should review the baggage conditions applicable to their specific reservation.

2. Baggage Information During Booking

Classic Fares may receive baggage information through:

  • Airlines;
  • Travel suppliers;
  • Contracted consolidators;
  • Global Distribution Systems (GDS);
  • Travel APIs;
  • Fare sources;
  • Ticketing or fulfillment partners; and
  • Other travel-industry systems.

Where baggage information is available to Classic Fares, we may display or communicate applicable information during the search, quotation or booking process.

Such information is based upon the information made available through the applicable travel source.

Because baggage rules are established by airlines and may change, customers should verify their current baggage allowance before departure.

Where baggage inclusion is a material characteristic of the selected fare and the information is available to us, the applicable information should be presented or made available during the booking process.

3. Baggage Is Not Automatically Included

Purchasing an airline ticket does not necessarily mean that checked baggage is included.

Depending upon the airline and fare, a ticket may include:

  • A personal item only;
  • A personal item and carry-on bag;
  • One or more checked bags;
  • Checked baggage only for eligible passengers;
  • A different allowance based upon cabin or loyalty status; or
  • No complimentary checked baggage.

Customers should therefore review the specific fare conditions rather than assuming baggage is included because of the airline, cabin description or ticket price.

4. Carry-On Baggage

Carry-on baggage policies vary by airline and fare type.

Airlines may impose restrictions concerning:

  • Number of carry-on items;
  • Personal items;
  • Maximum dimensions;
  • Maximum weight;
  • Storage location;
  • Liquids;
  • Electronics;
  • Batteries;
  • Restricted articles; and
  • Other cabin-baggage conditions.

Some restricted or lower-priced fares may permit only a personal item.

If baggage exceeds the applicable cabin allowance, the airline may require it to be checked and may impose an additional charge.

Classic Fares does not determine whether a particular item will ultimately be accepted into the aircraft cabin.

5. Checked Baggage

Checked baggage is not automatically included with every ticket.

Depending upon the selected fare, checked baggage may:

  • Be included in the airfare;
  • Be available for an additional charge;
  • Be included only for particular passengers or cabins;
  • Be subject to weight or size restrictions; or
  • Be subject to other airline-specific conditions.

Where checked baggage is not included, customers may be able to purchase baggage directly from the airline or through another available channel.

The applicable airline determines baggage acceptance, availability and airline-imposed charges.

6. Basic, Light, Restricted & Special Fares

Certain lower-priced, restricted, bulk, negotiated, promotional, basic, light or specially sourced fares may provide fewer baggage benefits than other fares.

For example, depending upon the airline and fare rules, a restricted fare may:

  • Include only a personal item;
  • Exclude checked baggage;
  • Restrict carry-on baggage;
  • Provide a lower baggage allowance;
  • Require baggage to be purchased separately; or
  • Carry other baggage-related limitations.

This can apply even when another fare on the same flight and in the same general cabin category provides different baggage benefits.

Customers should therefore review the baggage conditions associated with the specific fare selected before completing a reservation.

7. Bulk & Consolidator Fares

Classic Fares may obtain certain airfare inventory through contracted suppliers, consolidators, bulk-fare dealers, GDS systems, travel APIs or other travel-industry inventory sources.

The baggage conditions associated with these fares may differ from another publicly available fare for the same flight.

Where applicable baggage information is available through the source providing the fare, Classic Fares may present or communicate that information during the booking process.

Customers should not assume that a bulk, negotiated or specially sourced fare includes baggage unless baggage is expressly identified as included.

8. Baggage Fees

Airline-imposed baggage charges are generally determined by the applicable airline.

Charges may vary based upon factors such as:

  • Airline;
  • Route;
  • Origin and destination;
  • Fare type;
  • Cabin;
  • Number of bags;
  • Baggage weight;
  • Baggage dimensions;
  • Passenger status;
  • Loyalty-program status;
  • When baggage is purchased;
  • Where baggage is purchased; and
  • Other airline-specific conditions.

Where an airline baggage charge is not included in the amount paid to Classic Fares, it may be payable separately to the applicable airline.

An airline-imposed baggage charge does not become a Classic Fares service fee merely because the underlying flight reservation was made through Classic Fares.

9. Baggage Fees & Displayed Airfares

Unless baggage is expressly represented as included with a fare, an advertised or displayed airfare should not be interpreted as automatically including optional checked-baggage services.

Additional airline baggage charges may apply.

Where applicable, Classic Fares may display baggage information available to us or direct customers to the applicable airline's baggage information.

Mandatory amounts that are required by law to form part of an advertised airfare are treated separately from optional baggage services.

10. Different Flights May Have Different Baggage Rules

A single itinerary may involve more than one airline.

This may occur through:

  • Codeshare flights;
  • Interline arrangements;
  • Connecting carriers;
  • Multiple operating airlines;
  • Separate tickets; or
  • Other multi-carrier arrangements.

As a result, baggage allowances and procedures may differ between segments.

The airline whose name is displayed as the marketing carrier may also differ from the airline actually operating the aircraft.

Customers should pay particular attention to the operating carrier and the baggage conditions applicable to their specific itinerary.

11. Codeshare Flights

A flight may be marketed by one airline but operated by another.

Baggage rules applicable to a codeshare itinerary can depend upon the carriers involved, ticket, itinerary and applicable legal requirements.

Customers should review the baggage information applicable to the actual itinerary rather than assuming that every baggage rule of the marketing airline automatically applies.

12. Connecting & International Itineraries

Baggage rules can become more complex for international and connecting journeys.

Customers should verify:

  • Baggage allowance for each relevant segment;
  • Whether baggage is checked through to the final destination;
  • Whether baggage must be collected during a connection;
  • Whether baggage must be rechecked;
  • Whether customs or immigration procedures require baggage collection;
  • Whether different carriers impose different restrictions; and
  • Whether additional baggage charges may apply.

Customers should not assume baggage will automatically be transferred between every connecting flight.

13. Separate Tickets

Where a journey consists of separate tickets or unrelated reservations, baggage may not automatically be transferred between flights.

The traveler may be required to:

  • Collect checked baggage;
  • Complete applicable customs or immigration formalities;
  • Transfer between terminals;
  • Check in again;
  • Recheck baggage with the next airline; and
  • Pay baggage charges applicable to the subsequent reservation.

Customers should allow sufficient connection time when traveling on separate tickets.

Classic Fares does not guarantee through-checking or automatic transfer of baggage between separate reservations.

14. Overweight, Oversized & Excess Baggage

Airlines establish their own baggage weight and dimension limits.

Baggage exceeding the standard allowance may be treated as:

  • Overweight baggage;
  • Oversized baggage;
  • Excess baggage; or
  • Special baggage.

Additional charges may apply.

An airline may also refuse baggage that exceeds its operational, equipment, safety or regulatory limitations.

Travelers carrying unusually heavy or large items should verify the applicable airline's requirements before arriving at the airport.

15. Sports Equipment

Sports equipment may be subject to separate baggage conditions.

Examples may include:

  • Golf equipment;
  • Skis;
  • Snowboards;
  • Surfboards;
  • Bicycles;
  • Cricket equipment;
  • Diving equipment;
  • Fishing equipment;
  • Hockey equipment; and
  • Other sporting equipment.

Depending upon the airline, sports equipment may:

  • Count as a standard checked bag;
  • Require an additional charge;
  • Have special weight or dimension limits;
  • Require special packaging;
  • Require advance notice; or
  • Be subject to acceptance limitations.

The applicable airline determines acceptance and charges.

16. Musical Instruments

Musical instruments may be subject to special airline rules.

Depending upon their size and the airline's policy, an instrument may need to:

  • Fit within the permitted carry-on allowance;
  • Be transported as checked baggage;
  • Be transported under special baggage procedures; or
  • Require another permitted arrangement.

Customers traveling with valuable or unusually large musical instruments should contact the applicable airline before departure.

17. Mobility Devices & Assistive Equipment

Wheelchairs, mobility aids, assistive devices and certain medical equipment may be subject to specialized airline procedures and applicable accessibility protections.

Travelers requiring assistance should provide appropriate information to the airline where necessary.

Nothing in this Baggage Policy is intended to restrict or waive any accessibility right or protection provided by applicable law.

18. Infants & Children

Baggage allowances for infants and children vary between airlines and fare products.

Different rules may apply to:

  • Strollers;
  • Car seats;
  • Child-restraint systems;
  • Diaper bags;
  • Infant baggage;
  • Portable cribs; and
  • Other child-related travel equipment.

Travelers should verify the applicable operating airline's rules before departure.

19. Medical Equipment & Medication

Travelers carrying medication, medical devices or medically necessary equipment should review applicable airline, airport, security and government requirements before travel.

Certain equipment may require:

  • Advance airline notification;
  • Supporting documentation;
  • Special handling;
  • Battery-related precautions; or
  • Other procedures.

Essential medication should be packed and transported in accordance with applicable security and airline requirements.

20. Restricted & Prohibited Items

Airlines, airports and government authorities regulate what passengers may carry in checked and cabin baggage.

Restrictions may apply to certain:

  • Liquids;
  • Batteries;
  • Power banks;
  • Electronic devices;
  • Chemicals;
  • Flammable substances;
  • Compressed gases;
  • Hazardous materials;
  • Sharp objects; and
  • Other regulated articles.

Requirements may vary according to jurisdiction, airport and itinerary.

Travelers are responsible for ensuring their baggage complies with applicable airline, airport and government requirements.

Classic Fares does not determine whether a particular item will pass airport security or be accepted for transportation.

21. Lithium Batteries & Power Banks

Lithium batteries, spare batteries and power banks can be subject to specific aviation-safety restrictions.

Rules may vary depending upon:

  • Battery type;
  • Watt-hour rating;
  • Device;
  • Whether the battery is installed or spare;
  • Carry-on versus checked baggage; and
  • Applicable airline and regulatory requirements.

Travelers should verify current airline and aviation-security requirements before packing such items.

22. Valuable, Fragile & Essential Items

Travelers should exercise particular care when packing valuable, fragile or essential property.

Examples include:

  • Passports;
  • Identification documents;
  • Medication;
  • Money;
  • Keys;
  • Jewelry;
  • Important documents;
  • Computers;
  • Cameras;
  • Mobile devices; and
  • Other valuable electronics.

Airlines may limit liability for certain articles placed in checked baggage.

Travelers should review the applicable airline's conditions of carriage before checking valuable or fragile items.

23. Delayed Baggage

Classic Fares does not physically transport or deliver baggage.

If baggage does not arrive with the passenger, the traveler should report the issue to the operating airline or its airport baggage-service representative as soon as possible.

The airline may require information such as:

  • Baggage claim tag;
  • Boarding pass;
  • Passenger identification;
  • Booking information;
  • Description of the baggage;
  • Delivery address; and
  • A mishandled baggage report or similar documentation.

Customers should retain copies of relevant records.

24. Significantly Delayed Baggage & Baggage-Fee Refunds

For flights subject to applicable U.S. Department of Transportation requirements, customers may have a right to a refund of a checked-baggage fee when baggage is significantly delayed and applicable requirements are satisfied.

Applicable rules may require the passenger to file a mishandled baggage report with the airline.

Because these rights are governed by applicable law and the circumstances of the journey, travelers should submit the baggage report promptly and communicate directly with the operating airline regarding baggage delivery and any applicable baggage-fee refund.

Nothing in this Policy is intended to limit a baggage-fee refund right provided by applicable law.

25. Lost Baggage

Airlines may have procedures for determining when delayed baggage is considered officially lost.

If an airline declares baggage lost, applicable rights may arise under:

  • Airline conditions of carriage;
  • Applicable domestic law;
  • International conventions; or
  • Other applicable legal requirements.

Customers should submit claims directly to the applicable airline within any required deadline.

Classic Fares cannot determine whether an airline will classify baggage as lost or determine the amount of compensation payable.

26. Damaged Baggage

If baggage arrives damaged, the traveler should report the damage to the airline as soon as possible.

The airline may request:

  • Baggage tags;
  • Boarding documents;
  • Photographs;
  • Receipts;
  • Repair estimates;
  • Proof of value; or
  • Other supporting documentation.

Applicable claim deadlines can be important.

Classic Fares does not inspect, transport or physically handle baggage and therefore does not determine whether baggage damage occurred during airline handling.

27. Missing Items or Pilferage

If property is missing from checked baggage, customers should report the matter promptly to the airline and, where appropriate, airport or law-enforcement authorities.

The airline may impose specific reporting requirements and claim deadlines.

Airline liability for particular items may be restricted by its conditions of carriage or applicable law.

28. Baggage Claims Are Generally Handled by the Airline

The operating airline controls:

  • Physical baggage acceptance;
  • Loading;
  • Transportation;
  • Transfer;
  • Unloading;
  • Delivery;
  • Baggage tracing;
  • Damage inspection;
  • Lost-baggage determinations; and
  • Baggage claims.

Classic Fares does not perform these physical airline functions.

Accordingly, baggage claims generally need to be filed directly with the applicable airline.

29. Classic Fares Assistance

Although the applicable airline controls baggage handling, Classic Fares may provide reasonable assistance concerning baggage information available to us.

Depending upon the circumstances, our representatives may help customers identify:

  • Available baggage information;
  • The applicable operating carrier;
  • Relevant reservation information;
  • Available airline contact information; or
  • Other travel information reasonably available to us.

Providing assistance does not transfer responsibility for baggage transportation or claims from the airline to Classic Fares.

30. Independent Travel Consultation for Baggage Matters

Classic Fares may provide eligible travel consultation concerning baggage matters even when the original reservation was not booked through Classic Fares.

This is an independent professional travel-assistance service.

Where a consultation or service fee applies, the applicable scope and fee will be disclosed before the customer authorizes the service.

Payment for consultation does not guarantee that an airline will:

  • Locate baggage;
  • Deliver baggage within a particular period;
  • Approve a claim;
  • Pay compensation;
  • Refund a baggage fee;
  • Accept special baggage; or
  • Provide any particular resolution.

Customers may always contact the applicable airline directly regarding airline baggage services without purchasing independent consultation from Classic Fares.

31. Baggage-Fee Refund Requests

Where a customer seeks a refund of an airline-imposed baggage fee because baggage was delayed, lost or the baggage service was otherwise not provided, the request may need to be made directly to the applicable airline.

Classic Fares may assist with available reservation information but does not represent that it is responsible for issuing every airline baggage-fee refund.

Nothing in this provision limits any obligation that applicable law specifically places upon Classic Fares for a particular transaction.

32. Changes to Airline Baggage Policies

Airlines may change baggage:

  • Allowances;
  • Charges;
  • Weight limits;
  • Dimension limits;
  • Procedures;
  • Restricted-item requirements; or
  • Other baggage conditions.

Information obtained through supplier or distribution systems may therefore change after a reservation is completed.

Travelers should verify the airline's current baggage policy before departure, particularly when:

  • Purchasing additional baggage;
  • Traveling internationally;
  • Traveling on multiple airlines;
  • Traveling with special equipment;
  • Carrying oversized or overweight baggage;
  • Carrying batteries or electronics; or
  • Traveling with medical or mobility equipment.

33. Customer Responsibility

Before traveling, customers should review:

  • Booking confirmation;
  • Fare conditions;
  • Operating airline;
  • Carry-on allowance;
  • Personal-item allowance;
  • Checked baggage allowance;
  • Baggage weight limits;
  • Baggage dimension limits;
  • Potential baggage charges;
  • Special-item requirements;
  • Restricted-item requirements;
  • Connecting-flight procedures; and
  • Current airline baggage rules.

Customers should not rely solely upon a general baggage allowance associated with an airline because different fares on the same airline may provide different baggage benefits.

34. Classic Fares Does Not Control Airline Baggage Fees

Classic Fares does not establish airline baggage charges.

Where a baggage charge is imposed directly by an airline, that amount is determined according to the airline's applicable policies.

Such charges may change and may differ according to fare, route, passenger, payment timing or other airline-defined conditions.

35. No Guarantee of Baggage Acceptance

Payment for an airline ticket does not guarantee that every item a passenger wishes to carry will be accepted by the airline.

Acceptance may depend upon:

  • Safety regulations;
  • Security requirements;
  • Weight;
  • Dimensions;
  • Aircraft limitations;
  • Packaging;
  • Destination restrictions;
  • Hazardous-material rules; and
  • Airline policy.

The operating airline has authority over the physical acceptance of baggage for transportation, subject to applicable law.

36. Applicable Consumer Rights

Nothing in this Baggage Policy is intended to eliminate, reduce or waive a passenger right that cannot legally be waived.

Passengers may have baggage-related rights under:

  • Applicable U.S. aviation consumer-protection law;
  • Airline conditions of carriage;
  • International aviation conventions;
  • Applicable accessibility laws; or
  • Other domestic or international law.

Where this Policy conflicts with a mandatory legal requirement, the applicable mandatory requirement will control.

37. Important Baggage Notice

BAGGAGE IS NOT NECESSARILY INCLUDED WITH EVERY AIRFARE.

BAGGAGE ALLOWANCES AND CHARGES MAY VARY BY AIRLINE, OPERATING CARRIER, ROUTE, FARE TYPE, CABIN, PASSENGER, ITINERARY AND OTHER APPLICABLE CONDITIONS.

CLASSIC FARES DOES NOT SET OR CONTROL AIRLINE BAGGAGE RULES OR AIRLINE-IMPOSED BAGGAGE FEES.

WHERE BAGGAGE IS EXPRESSLY INCLUDED WITH A FARE, THE APPLICABLE ALLOWANCE REMAINS SUBJECT TO THE CONDITIONS OF THAT FARE AND THE APPLICABLE AIRLINE.

OPTIONAL BAGGAGE CHARGES MAY BE PAYABLE SEPARATELY TO THE AIRLINE AND MAY NOT FORM PART OF THE AIRFARE PAID TO CLASSIC FARES.

Customers should review the baggage conditions associated with their selected fare before purchase and verify the current baggage policy of the applicable operating airline before departure.
